Samuel H. Fields Jr. 85, passed away peacefully at Prestonwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Plano, Texas on September 3, 2019 after a long‐fought battle with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and cancer. He was a Marine who served in the Korean War, and was a wonderful father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Sam was born in Saugerties, NY. Prior to his admission to Prestonwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center he lived in Frisco, TX. He was an active member at Prestonwood Baptist Church and was a hardline Republican to the end. His favorite meal in the world was an In‐N‐Out burger and a great chocolate shake.
Survivors include his daughter Cathy DeWitt Dunn and her husband Rogge Dunn of Plano, TX; sons Paul Fields of Waco, TX, Andrew Fields and his wife Allison Fields of Lynchburg, VA, David Fields and his wife Theresa Fields of Greenbrier, TN, and Stephen Fields of the Philippines. He is survived by his many loving grandchildren: Brooke Addison DeWitt Muir and her husband Clifford Muir, Blake Gables DeWitt and his wife Kiara DeWitt, Bryan Keller Fields, Molly Beth Fields, Rachel Fields, Zachary Fields, Benjamin Fields, Roswell Dunn, Katherine Dunn, and Ellen Dunn.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, and by his siblings, George Fields and Vivian Cottroll Atkins.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the celebration of his life. Services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, September 20th, 2019 at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 West Park Boulevard, Plano TX 75093. Following the service, a wake will be held in Plano. Details to follow at his service. Sam will be laid to rest on what would have been his 86th birthday, October 27, 2019 in Hohenwald, TN.
